Social Media Policy

 

I. Purpose:
The Library’s use of social media is to promote Library services, programs, resources, and events to the public.

 

II. Establishment of accounts: 

The Library may establish social media accounts with the permission of the Library Director. Social media is defined as any online or mobile platform open to the public, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc. 

 

III. Comments and Responses: The Library is not responsible for comments and responses to Library posts that are made by third parties such as patrons, reviewers, advertisers, etc. Public posts by third parties do not reflect the opinion of the Library, its employees, or its board. 

 

The Library expects all users and followers to display courteous and respectful commentary on any comments or responses pursuant to its Behavior Policy, and Sexual and Ethnic/Racial Harassment Policies. The Library reserves the right to remove any comments or responses that are deemed to be inappropriate or in violation of the Library’s Behavior Policy, and/or Sexual and Ethnic/Racial Harassment Policies, which are available on the Library’s website. 

 

The Library reserves the right to delete comments or responses if they include spam or advertisements or are in violation of obscenity laws. 

 

The Library reserves the right to delete duplicated comments or responses by an individual user.

 

 

IV. Reconsideration Process:  

If the Library believes or receives a patron complaint that a third-party comment is not in accordance with its Behavior Policy and/or Sexual and Ethnic/Racial Harassment Policies, then the Library Director, the President of the Board, and at least one other board trustee shall review in a timely manner the comment to determine what action will be taken. This may include removal of the post or blocking an individual user. The determination made shall be final.
