Be A Nutmeg Reader!

Grades 7 - 12

Now through April 30

How many Nutmeg Nominees can YOU read this March and April? 1, 2, 3, or all 10? For each nominee you read in your level—Elementary, Intermediate, Middle School, or High School—have a quick conversation with Mrs. Tricia about the book, either in-person, over the phone, or via email and you will be entered in a drawing for a $100 gift certificate to Hickory Stick OR a Kindle Fire—reader’s choice! Enter up to 10 times depending on how many Nutmeg nominees you read between now and April 30!

About the Nutmeg Book Award:
The Nutmeg Book Award encourages children in grades 2 to 12 to read quality literature and have students choose (by voting) their favorite from a list of ten nominated titles. All titles were selected by a committee of public and school librarians.

There are ten books selected for each grade level division: Elementary (grades 2-3); Intermediate (grades 4-6); Middle School (grades 7-8); and High School (grades 9-12).

How to Participate:
Children and teens are encouraged to read as many selections in their grade level. We have multiple physical copies available here at OWL – and—many of the titles are also available as e-book or e-audio through our Libby app.

We also strongly encourage families to read books together! Sharing books is a great way to talk about issues and share your values with your child or teen.

How to Vote:
Throughout the month of April, cast your vote for the book you want to see as this year’s Nutmeg Book Award Winner!  In the children’s room we will have a small voting booth for you to privately cast your ballot. Each child or teen may vote only once and voting ends April 30.

Winner Announced:
The Nutmeg Committee is jointly sponsored by the Connecticut Library Association (CLA) and the Connecticut Association of School Librarians (CASL) and they will announce the Reader’s Choice Nutmeg Winner on or about May 15.
