Planned Giving & Memorial Gifts

Planned Giving

The Oliver Wolcott Society recognizes individuals who support the Library by including it in their estate plans. Over the years, generous annual contributions and planned gifts, including outright bequests, have helped the Library provide excellence in library services. Today, earnings from planned gifts pay for a large portion of the Library’s annual budget. The Library’s Finance Committee has established rigorous investment and spending policies. These policies insure that planned gift not only support the Library’s services now, but also grow over time to finance library activities into the future.

You may become a member of The Oliver Wolcott Society by informing the Library that you have made provisions in your estate plans. To find out more information on planned giving or to inform us of plans you have already made, please contact the Library's  Director Ann Marie White at  [email protected] or by calling her at 860-567-8030.

We believe that through books, services, events, and all the other myriad ways we now and will access information, we discover our inner selves and comprehend the outer world. Literacy, the educated populace, is the foundation of democracy and the root of a truly fulfilling life.

Types of Planned Giving include:

  • Current Gifts: Giving to the Library Endowment now, including gifts of cash, real estate and/or securities. These gifts can reduce your income tax as well as any potential capital gains on appreciated securities or real estate.
  • Bequests: Naming the Library in your will. These bequests will be deducted for estate tax purposes from the value of your estate.

For more information on Planned Giving or to discuss other planned giving options, please contact the Library's Director Ann Marie White at [email protected] or by calling her at 860-567-8030.

Memorial Gifts Donations

A gift made in memory of someone is always a meaningful way to remember or honor a beloved family member, respected friend, or colleague. The Library will notify any family/recipients of the gifts and thank all who contribute in this way.

When you make a memorial gift donation or select the library as a place to send memorial gifts in lieu of flowers, it is a positive way to honor and give tribute to someone you love while supporting the vital services we provide the community. The Library has been able to provide many additional services and purchases as the direct result of being named a designation for memorial gift giving.
